Norwich chemist works to prevent arsenic poisoning in Bangladesh More than 150,000 people living in the developing nation of Bangladesh are expected to die from skin, bladder, liver, and lung cancers because of exposure to naturally occurring arsenic. Now, a testing method developed by Seth H. Frisbie, faculty member in Norwich University's chemistry department, is offering hope for hundreds of thousands of people by making it easier to identify safer sources of groundwater in the southwest Asian country of 137 million. When Joe Smith saw his son, U.S. Army Captain Matt Smith off to war in October, 2006, he gave him three pieces of advice-do your duty, protect your men, and don't worry about being a hero. Smith did his duty well, preparing and deploying to Iraq on just 45 days notice, and he got all 97 of his men back home alive and well. But he failed on admonition number three, earning the Bronze Star, awarded for "heroic or meritorious service." "He listened to two of the things I told him," said his father. Continued...

Despite outshooting the Golden Knights 26-19, the Cadets men's ice hockey team still needed a miracle to oust eventual champs St. Norbert's in their NCAA Div III frozen four title bid. The semi-final matchup, which took place in the Herbert Brooks Olympic Arena, site of the 1980 "Miracle On Ice," in Lake Placid, N.Y., ended 3-0 in the Wisconsinites favor. St. Norbert's defeated Plattsburgh State 2-0 in Sunday's final.
