From the President
2008 – 2009 Annual Report
On behalf of Norwich University and the Board of Trustees, I am writing to let you know that the Annual Report is now available online. If you made a gift to the University in FY09, you have already received your copy in the mail. I encourage you to read this document, as it not only provides a financial accounting of the University in fiscal 2009, but also features profiles some of the terrific young men and women at Norwich, and offers a glimpse of what we are planning to do in the next few years as we continue the momentum of the Norwich Forever! campaign.

Bittersweet death race entices NU students, alums
Searching for a way to describe the Vermont Death Race, Cadet Peter Bue, 20, kept it simple. “It was a blast,” he said.
The same question put to Norwich alumnus Chris Prybella '09 brought a very different reply: “You have to be insane to do it.”
“It is the hardest thing I have ever done,” added Prybella, 22, of Philadelphia. “It is torture; it is like going to hell and back.”

2007 grad is making a difference in Tanzania
The phrase “making a difference” still carries great meaning in a world that is often hostile to the dreams of idealists. To Moriah Gavrish, a 2007 graduate of the School of Architecture & Art, it’s the cornerstone of her world view. While working on her architecture thesis, Gavrish was able to fuse professional ambition with an interest in serving others, and include her “hobby” of videography, all in the east African country of Tanzania.

Under the slogan Say YES to Florida’s Future, Leo Cruz ’02, is seeking the District 33 seat in the Florida state house. He made his official announcement the week of July 4th for the November 2010 election. “Florida’s in a race and we’re losing,” he said. “We’re losing quality jobs, losing population, losing revenues and losing in the education of our young people.”

Diplomacy graduate applies skills in Haiti
Jean-Marc Koumoue is a man who needs to get things done. But as head of protocol for the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Haiti—the poorest country in the western hemisphere—getting things done has dimensions that might give even the most ambitious person reason to hesitate. "Things have improved here some since I arrived in 2004," said Koumoue, a 1999 Norwich University graduate who completed Norwich's online Master of Arts in Diplomacy (MDY) program in June 2009.
