Join us as we put our Norwich values into action and make a real difference in the lives of our troops and their kids. We are going host a HUGE toy and book drive and need your help to make it a success. This is what we are planning:
Book Drive for deployed soldiers: We are partnering with a great organization called Operation Paperback to collect books for our troops. Bring your gently used (or new) books and we will arrange to ship them. Operation Paperback is a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization committed to providing great reading material, and a fun diversion, to our troops.
Toys for the kids of local deployed soldiers. Any new, unwrapped toy for kids age 0-17 would be hugely appreciated. We will distribute all toys collected via the Armed Forces Foundation's Toy Drive. Help make the holidays bright for these special kids who will be missing their mom or dad over the holidays.

What we will be doing: Our exact project will depend on the day-of needs of the food bank and how many volunteers we have. We will either be working in the warehouse or the garden. Come dressed in work clothes (no open-toed shoes) and ready to make a difference in the lives of thousands of families!

What we will be doing: We will be providing refreshments, company and rides to our area veterans as they await the opportunity to meet with the Vet Center counselors in the MVC (Mobile Vet Center). It will be our honor to give some time back to our nation's veterans - the men and women who have given so much for our country - and to support the efforts of the WRJ Vet Center. All alumni, students, parents and friends - anyone with a Norwich connection - are invited to join us.

What's needed: We need approximately a dozen alumni volunteers to join us on Saturday, November 7. We will feed the vets with food generously donated by David Briggs '68 and provide them with company, support and conversation while they await their turn in the MVC. Help is also needed to set up tables and chairs and clean-up afterwards and to give rides to veterans unable to find transportation to the event.
Bring your kids along to teach them about Norwich values and giving back!
We'll be getting together afterwards for some informal fun and food - we hope you can join us!

Gather any items you would like to share with our Norwich soldiers and we'll be sure it arrives by the holidays.

All alumni, students, parents and friends - anyone with a Norwich connection - is invited to join us for an afternoon of pizza and bingo with the residents of the Veterans Community Living Center. We will be providing the food - and the fun - for an afternoon of games, stories and memories with the resident veterans.

What's needed: We need alumni to bring along money for pizzas, beverages, fruit, and dessert items, along with small prizes for the bingo game. Then, share a meal with the veterans and other Norwich alumni and friends. We'll be listening to their memories, playing bingo (a favorite of the residents!) and telling them about Norwich.

This event is held annually during the week of Veterans Day to honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Services. GEN Gordon R. Sullivan, USA (Ret.) '59 will be delivering the keynote address and the Chamber has asked that we extend the invitation to all Norwich alumni and friends in Connecticut. Tables will be reserved for Norwich so that our alumni can sit with one another.

10:00 am – Short tour (walk about 1.5 miles on paved path) of the battlefield followed by ceremony in the National Soldier’s Cemetery to honor the 61 Vermonters buried there

We’ll gather afterwards for snacks and drinks.
This is a no cost, no RSVP event. Just come out, soak up the atmosphere and learn about the Civil War and Norwich history. The event concludes at nightfall with a Luminaria in the cemetery -- a moving tribute to the fallen soldiers. Everyone is invited.

This is a spectacular and delicious brunch, featuring a mouthwatering selection of breakfast and dinner items.
