If you have any great event ideas please let us know!  We are always eager to hear the suggestions of our local Houston alumni and having events that bring people together to celebrate the Maroon and Gold Spirit in the Lone Star State!

Norwich Forever! Campaign Video

Many of our Houston area alumni and friends were able to join us at the Petroleum Club in March 2010 to welcome President Schneider to Texas and celebrate the conclusion of the Norwich Forever! campaign.

By popular demand, we are pleased to post the student-produced video that was screened at the event.  Check it out to see the impact of our support of Norwich.  Enjoy!

2009 - A Great Year for the Houston Club!

We had many great events this year including:

Christmas Party:  The NU Club of Houston celebrated their 4th Christmas Cocktail Party on Sunday evening, December, 2009! Shelly Martin, wife of Tony Martin NU ’83 together with Allison Sultan, NU Alumni Center Staff, and a few Houston area alumni worked for several months to make this event a success.   A group of more than 22 alumni, parents, and graduate students gathered at the Martin’s house for a relaxing evening of food & friends. After cocktails and food we gave out over a dozen prizes including the top prize of a vintage red of official NU Club of Houston wine.
We had a great mix of alumni and family spanning 43 years of Norwich history. Classmates reminisced about good friends and great memories. Kathleen Newton NU ‘10 was the youngest graduate there while Ray Bouchard ‘66 took the honor as the most senior. Those attending this event included Brian & Sandy Ashe, Greg and Izzy Bayles, Clark Boyd, Dave & Ulrike Brown, Ray & Ann Bouchard, Charity Combs and son Colt, Ed and Melinda Dohn, Carl Drechsel, Carla Jewett, Ali Muratore, Kathleen Newton, and Tony and Shelly Martin. As a wrap-up for the evening, several group pictures were taken (please see Photo).

Aero's Game:  On October 17, a small contingent of the NU Club of Houston met up for good eats and great hockey! We started off with dinner at China Garden, across the street from the Toyota Center. After stuffing ourselves on a variety of tasty Chinese dishes, we migrated over to the Toyota Center where the Houston Aeros hosted the Texas Stars. While the Aeros were sadly not victorious, the club level seats gave us a fantastic view of the game. Much fun was had by all!

Student Sendoff:  The NU Club of Houston held a gathering on August 8 for their annual Student Sendoff event. A group of 25 alumni, students, family members, freshmen and parents gathered at the Kemah Aquarium for a social hour and luncheon to welcome four of the area’s five NU freshmen – Kevin Bagnall, Patrick Barnes, Ian Martin, and Keifer Valencia. Incoming Freshman Luke Arriaga was unable to make the event due to a previously planned family function.

On hand to give the incoming freshmen the latest scoop on what’s happening on the Hill, and what to expect as a Rook, were two returning Juniors – Olivia Houck and Jonathan Yonley. Many thanks to these two fine cadets for assisting in making the event a success. Also present to give the latest campus news was Norwich representative Jason Springer ‘00 and his wife Deborah. Other alumni in attendance were: Alison Muratore ’04, David Brown ’79, Charity Combs ’05 (with her newborn son), Audry and Adam Rose ’07 and Brian Ashe ’68.

Special thanks to the following folks that pitched-in with organizing and making numerous phone calls in order to make this a successful afternoon: Brian and Sandy Ashe ’68, David Brown ’79, Carl and Sandy Dreschel ‘67 and Ali Moratore.

Oak Island Clean-Up Project and Spaghetti Dinner:  On Saturday, April 25, 2009 the NU Club of Houston sponsored a civic event to assist the community of Oak Island in Anahuac, TX (the Alligator Capital of Texas) with their continuing clean-up from last fall’s Hurricane Ike. Pastor Eddie Shauberger of Oak Island Baptist church has been shepherding the rebuilding/clean-up effort for the entire area ever since the storm waters receded. Eight Alumni arrived at the church to be greeted by church members already at work preparing breakfast and lunch for the volunteers and repairing damage to the two large tents that are used as the base of operations. The night before we arrived there were severe thunderstorms and Anahuac got hit with high winds and about 10" of rain during the night. Everything was flooded and rather than the anticipated debris clearing (can't clear debris if you can't get to it through the water) the NU Alumni were assigned sheetrock and spackling duties at a severely damaged home located out in the “deep woods”. The couple that owns the home, Bessie & David Gau, lost almost everything during the hurricane and since then have been living in a small trailer next to the house. While our group accomplished quite a lot for the Gaus while we were there, it still will be many months before their home will be habitable. We all agreed, however, that we had made only a small dent in the massive clean-up that still lies before the people of Oak Island. Norwich Alumni and guests that participate in the clean-up effort included: Carl Drechsel ’67; Brian and Sandy Ashe ’68; Dave Luther ’70; Ali Muratore ’04; Charity Combs ’05 and guest Marcus Wiedermann; and Crystal Quagliaroli ’07.

Later in the afternoon we headed for Spring, TX and the home of Ray and Anne Bouchard ’66 for the second planned event of the day, a full spaghetti dinner with all the fixins. As usual, Ray and Anne did an outstanding job. Fine food and great hospitality after which we finally departed around 7:30 PM or so...a long but fruitful day for everyone. Norwich Alumni and guests joining together for dinner were: Ray and Anne Bouchard ’66; Carl and Sandy Drechsel ’67; Brian and Sandy Ashe ’68; Alyson Baird ’04 & ’08 and guest Greg White; Ali Muratore ’04; Charity Combs ’05 and guest Marcus Wiedermann; and Crystal Quagliaroli ’07.
