Norwich University to recognize two Vt. hospitals as “Employers of Distinction”

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University Alumni Association (NUAA) will honor Central Vermont Medical Center (CVMC) and Fletcher Allen Health Care with a special award recognizing each as a Norwich “Employer of Distinction” at an evening reception and dinner on Monday, Feb. 3, at 5 p.m.

The NUAA presents this award to employers across the country that recognize the value of hiring Norwich graduates for their operations. Together CVMC and Fletcher Allen employ nearly 100 graduates from a variety of Norwich University’s academic programs including nursing, biology, business administration and information security.

“The mission of service that defines these two great medical centers aligns perfectly with the Norwich value of service before self,” said Charlie O’Neil, president of the NUAA board of directors. “It’s a great honor to formally recognize both CVMC and Fletcher Allen as long-time partners of the university.”

CVMC along with Fletcher Allen, CVPH Medical Center and Elizabethtown Community Hospital, are members of Fletcher Allen Partners, established to develop a more coordinated system of care throughout the region.

The NUAA developed the “Hire Norwich First” program to strengthen ties with businesses that share and appreciate the values that Norwich alumni bring to the workplace, such as hard work, integrity and leadership.

“We hope to spread the word to every business regarding Norwich’s distinguished history and unique learning environment and get our graduates’ names to the top of the list.” said O’Neil.

Norwich President Richard W. Schneider will present the award at an evening reception and dinner. Attendees will then have the opportunity to see a presentation by Dr. J. Craig Venter, a renowned American biologist and entrepreneur who will be speaking at 7 p.m. for Norwich’s Todd Lecture Series, “Life at the Speed of Light.”

The NUAA plans to recognize more of the largest employers of Norwich alumni in 2014 at campus or regional club events.
