Norwich remembers 2001 graduate killed in Afghan crash
Former Norwich University student-athlete Brian Bill '01 was a patriot, a hero and a well-liked, quiet person, university officials said Monday. Norwich President Richard Schneider said Bill paid the ultimate military sacrifice when the Navy SEAL was on board a CH-47 Chinook helicopter that was shot down by an insurgent in Afghanistan on Saturday.

“He was kind of humble and quiet and just a wonderful student. He wanted to be a SEAL for a long time,” Schneider said.

Fred Kreitzberg ’57: “A man of his word”
Fred Kreitzberg is one of the nation’s leading construction managers. He has developed systems for NASA, the Moon Shot Program, San Francisco’s cable car system, and Arecibo Listening Device in Puerto Rico, where scientists are listening for messages from outer space. But people who know Fred well say his greatest strength is that he is a man of his word. If he tells you something, you can believe him.

Video: Paddling into adventure
Each spring, two dozen Norwich University students have the unique opportunity to learn about the natural environment of the Connecticut River Valley in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Accompanied by professors David Westerman and Richard Dunn, the group is challenged to learn about a variety of subjects while paddling canoes, sleeping in tents and dealing with the elements for nine days.

Kyle Thomas hoping for NHL
For three days this summer, Norwich’s Kyle Thomas got his first sense of what it would be like to be a professional hockey player. After taking part in the Minnesota Wild’s NHL Developmental camp, the rising junior is more convinced than ever it won’t be his last.
