Students find restoration project in Norwich's back yard
The Dog River, which flows through campus, is shifting and changing, causing no shortage of problems for the University and the town. Over time, Norwich stands to lose a rugby pitch and a soccer field due to natural erosion and movement of the stream bed. "If you saw this river just four years ago, it looked very different," said NU environmental science student Chris Barber.

Vermont Guard goes on night patrol with Afghan National Police
Vermont Public Radio reporter Steve Zind is embedded with the Vermont National Guard in Afghanistan, and he recently joined them for a late night patrol in one provincial capital. His story features Norwich graduate Justin Kokernak '08, who worked in the Public Affairs Office while he was an undergraduate on the Hill.

Grad?s art featured in special exhibit
Attack at Twilight, Roger Blum, Vietnam, 1966Several paintings by artist Peter Varisano MFA '97 are part of an exhibit titled "Art of the American Solder," which features more than 15,000 paintings and sketches created by over 1,300 American soldiers in the line of duty. The exhibition, which opened at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pa. on September 24, was created in partnership with the U.S. Army Center of Military History and the National Museum of the United States Army. Following its world debut at the Center, the exhibition will begin a national tour.

Rugby celebrates milestone anniversaries
The Norwich University RuggadilloNorwich men's and women's rugby celebrated 40 and 25 years of existence, respectively, during two days of events that culminated in a formal banquet on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Players and coaches from the 1970s through the present era were treated to a special commemorative video and program, as well as a cookout, alumni games, and decisive victories over Brown and Dartmouth by the varsity teams.

2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
On Sunday, October 10, 2010, Norwich will induct nine individuals and two teams into the Athletic Hall of Fame: Emily Caruso '00, Mike Ludwar '00, Marc Bellemare '00, Randy Franklin '80, Jim Kelly '75, Bill Tanner '75, Ken Howard '65, Gary Wehrwein '65, Steve Ingram Honorary, 1964-65 Men's Soccer Team, and the 1999-2000 Men's Hockey Team.
Schedule: 11:00 a.m. - Social, 11:45 a.m. - Banquet and Awards.

NU Alumni invited to career expo in Burlington
Norwich alumni are invited to attend the Seven Days' Vermont 3.0 Tech Jam, Friday and Saturday, October 15 and 16, at the Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center in Burlington. Norwich produces creative innovators, and the Tech Jam is just the place where they can meet Vermont employers looking for their unique skills. A two-day career fair and technology expo showcasing Vermont's tech and bioscience economy, Tech Jam features more than 50 Vermont companies, many of them looking to meet and potentially hire Vermont's brightest job-seekers as interns and employees.

NU named top military friendly school in US
In August, G.I. Jobs announced the release of its 2011 list of Military Friendly Schools, honoring the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools which are doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students. Norwich was named as one of America's top schools for 2011. "We are very pleased to continue to serve the military community and happy that they appreciate the educational value of Norwich University" said William Clements, PhD, Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs and the Dean of the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies.

Sullivan Museum News

World War II stories brought to life at Norwich
A total of 2,065 Norwich alumni served in World War II. Ninety-one died, and of those who survived, only 150 remain. You can hear those veterans' stories in their own words and see artifacts donated by the soldiers and their families at an exhibit currently underway at the Sullivan Museum and History Center on the Norwich University campus.

Join with your local NU Club this fall to make a difference!
Calling all alumni and friends! You are invited to come together under the maroon and gold banner to put Norwich values to work in your local community. Well over a dozen NU Clubs and groups will be hosting community service events on Saturday, November 6, 2010 as part of the 2nd annual NU Day of Service.

From preparing care packages for troops serving overseas to volunteering at the nation's only fully-accessible amusement park, adopting the local Fisher House (a home away from home for wounded warriors) to helping out at an area food shelter there are many opportunities to be involved. We want you there with us as we show the world what Norwich is all about!
